I graduated from Penn Foster high school last year. I started looking for colleges to apply to. I was interested of an affordable education, so I had applied State University of New York , and City university of New York.
Weeks later I get letters in my mailbox that stated that I was not accepted because my High school diploma is not recognized by the State of New York. I was told to get a formerly (Ged), and now called High school equivalency diploma. I was shocked and sadden that my hard work of studying for three years didn't pay off. This is a slap in the face for me. I had applied to other universities and colleges like Pace University and Other private colleges, I got accepted but it's too expensive for me. I make about $20, 000 a year. How can I afford a private college education?
That's not my argument at the moment.
My argument is with the New York State Board of regents and The New York State Higher education Department.
They accept foreign diplomas from out the country, but can't accept Penn Foster high school diploma because it's not recognized. Penn foster High School Is Accredited By THE US dept of Education and is regionally accredited.
Job Corp also issues Penn foster High to their student's.
My friend had also graduated from Penn Foster High school 7 years ago, and after that she attended a Alfred State College , which is a part of SUNY. She had graduated and is working. I had brought this to the NYSED attention, and all they stated that every admission department in Suny and Cuny has there own set of rules? What really? So it who you know? So they can override the requirements if the wanted to?
Who else out there has been through the Same or similar situation, and what was your out come?
Hi Audrey. I am going through the same situation. I applied to CUNY and was denied for the same reason. I am heartbroken. I'm not sure what I will do now.
